It's at the core of CheckPoint Student and everything we do.

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 1, 2025

CheckPoint Student by ckpnt ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our application (the "Service"). This policy applies to all users globally, and we comply with applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other regional privacy regulations.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve our Service:

  • Personal Information: When you create an account on the CheckPoint Student application, we may collect your name, email address, school, and, if required by your school, a profile image.

  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with our Service, including device type, operating system, log files, and engagement events. This data helps us improve performance and user experience.

  • Google Sign-In Data: Many of our web and mobile applications utilize Google Sign-In, which provides us with your name, email, and profile picture. This authentication method ensures that only authorized users can access student data.

  • Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We use cookies and other tracking technologies to enhance user experience, store preferences, and analyze trends. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our Service

  • Personalize and improve user experience

  • Monitor usage patterns to enhance functionality and security

  • Detect and prevent fraudulent activities

  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies

If required by law, we will seek your consent before processing your personal information for any purpose not listed above.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not and will not sell your personal information. However, we may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist in hosting, analytics, and customer support. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your data if required by law, such as responding to lawful requests by public authorities, court orders, or legal proceedings.

  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

4. Student Personal Information Usage and Retention

We are committed to protecting the privacy of students' personal information. We will only collect, use, share, and retain student personal information for the specific purposes authorized by the educational institution, teacher, or the parent/student. This includes using the information strictly for the purposes for which it was provided. We will not use or disclose this information for any other purposes without obtaining appropriate consent or unless required by law. Additionally, we will retain student personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by applicable regulations.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption, access control, and regular security assessments. However, no system is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

If you believe your data has been compromised, please contact us immediately at privacy@ckpnt.com.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access and Correction: You can request access to the information we have about you and request corrections if necessary.

  • Data Deletion: You may request the deletion of your personal data, subject to legal and contractual obligations.

  • Objection to Processing: You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

  • Opt-Out of Marketing Communications: If we send marketing communications, you can opt out at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions or contacting us.

To exercise these rights, please contact us at privacy@ckpnt.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable laws.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required for school purposes or permitted by law. When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your home country, where data protection laws may differ. We ensure appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or other legal mechanisms, to protect your information when transferring data internationally.

9. Student and Child Privacy

Our Service is intended for students but is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete that information.

We will never use information collected from students to target advertisements to them. We do not use student information for purposes other than the functionality of our service and do not create advertising profiles based on student data.

10. Vendor and Subcontractor Data Sharing and Obligations

In the event that we share Student Personally Identifiable Information (PII) with third-party vendors or subcontractors in order to deliver educational services, we require that these vendors or subcontractors adhere to the same privacy and data protection commitments outlined in this policy. Specifically, they are obligated to collect, use, or share Student PII only in ways that are consistent with our Pledge commitments and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. These third parties will not be permitted to use Student PII for any purposes outside the scope of the educational services they are contracted to provide. Although our subcontractors may not be signatories to the Pledge, we will ensure that their agreements include provisions to protect Student PII and align with the privacy standards we uphold.

11. Successor Entity and Student PII

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or any other transfer of ownership, we will allow a successor entity to maintain the Student Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that we have collected, provided the successor entity agrees to uphold the same commitments outlined in this privacy policy. The successor entity is not required to be a signatory to the Pledge, but must commit to one of the following:

  1. Adherence to the Pledge Commitments: The successor entity must continue to follow the same commitments and privacy standards set forth in this policy in order to use or maintain the Student PII; or

  2. Notification and Opt-In Opportunity: If the successor entity plans to change the use or sharing of the Student PII in a way that is inconsistent with these commitments, they must provide notice of such changes to the account holder(s) (i.e., the educational institution/agency or the parent/student, if the information was collected directly from the student with their consent). The account holder(s) will then be given an opportunity to opt in to the successor entity’s revised use or sharing practices. If the account holder(s) do not opt in, the successor entity must delete or de-identify the Student PII.

This ensures that the privacy and protection of Student PII continue to be a priority, even after a change in ownership or control.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through our Service or by other means before the changes take effect. The "Effective Date" at the top of this policy reflects the most recent update. We will allow you to make choices about the usage of your data if the updated policy is inconsistent with prior versions.
